ABOUT THE BRISBANE COMMUNITY GARDEN

For those folks on the Internet not familiar with the SF Bay Area, Brisbane is a charming little secluded town just outside of San Francisco, California. Nestled beside the San Bruno Mountain, Brisbane manages to avoid much of San Francisco's fog and is often the perfect place to enjoy some sunny gardening.

We've had a community garden here in town for some years (pic above) but as of Jan. 2005, we moved to a new location. The new site is on San Francisco Street, just West of the post office, and has 39 plots. There are fewer trees than in our previous location, so we are going to need to be more careful about watching that things don't get too dry.

Most people have a mix of vegetables and flowers in their plots. There are also some common areas around the perimeter of the garden, and everybody shares in the tending/watering of the flowers there.

Here is a downloadable PDF showing the plot numbers and layout and here are some photos of the current garden.

A couple of times a year the gardeners get together to do bigger maintenance projects involving common-area weeding, shredding, and composting.

The community garden is a wonderful place to relax while doing some watering, socialize with the other gardeners, or to really get your hands dirty with some good hard work!
